OUR STORY

POWER MAW SHAN : PRIDE OF MYANMAR

We are a family owned tea trading company in its third generation. We have been in the market for the last five decades. We started as a small farm and tea factory in Pindaya (southern Shan State) in 1964 and just 20 years later we created our first brand: Maw Shan. Since the 1980s we have constantly expanded our business and today we even supply international markets.

SINCE 1964

International Support

In our ambition to reach premium and international markets, we started proactively developing our supply and value chain through farmer certification, factory upgrade and product diversification.

In the year of 2019, we signed with HELVETAS Myanmar, our three main responsibilities: social, environment and economic, had come true and well-positioned in the export market.

Fair for Life

We received Fair for Life (FFL) certificate in 2019 and Power Maw Shan was the first company to have Fair for Life Certification in Myanmar.

In 2016, MAW SHAN received technical support from GIZ and TeeGschwendner (Germany) to produce high quality green tea for German markets. In 2018 and after 2 years of collaborating with GIZ and Tee Gschwendner, Power MAW SHAN exported organic tea to Germany. In 2019, MAW SHAN was the first company to have Fair for Life (Fairtrade) Certification in Myanmar. “Fair For Life” is a brand neutral third party certification program for social accountability and fair trade in agriculture, manufacturing and trading operations. Socially responsible and fair-trade operators also need to take care to protect the environment at and around their production or processing sites. We were the first company to organize organic tea farmer groups and received EU organic certification by Control Union in SOUTHERN SHAN STATE.
